Benedict

I think that someday there will be as many little Catholic "Benedicts" running around as there are "John Pauls" today. I admit that I have been guilty of letting our current Pope be overshadowed by his great predecessor, JPII. But no more!

Hearing of his Baptism of Magdi Allam, a famous Muslim at the Easter Vigil Mass in St. Peters this past month and his call to love Jesus and come back to the roots of our faith makes me just LOVE him!

I haven't read much of his writings, but I plan to... my Easter resolution. If you'd like to join me, here are a few links:

Encyclicals:
Spe Salvi (Saved by Hope)
Deus Caritas Est (God is Love)

His recent book: Jesus of Nazareth

Let me know if you plan on reading any of these. I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

  1. Deus Caritas Est was a great encyclical. I haven't read the others.

I have enjoyed Ratzinger's books so much that I tend to favor this Pope over JPII. This Pope is going to rock the world.

  2. I would like to revisit DCE...we read it with the students when I was working at St. Mary's and I can not imagine how much more will be revealed to me at this point in my life by going through it again!! Thanks for the book recommendation reminders too!

  3. I have read them all. They are great. We did a staff book study on Jesus of Nazareth last summer. But, I recommend you read the encyclicals first and in order. They are shorter and are magisterial.
