  2. Hey Lauren,
Just got your comment about Collen's birth announcement shot.

Here's what you need to do:

    1) Put the person holding Colleen in a black tshirt and stand next to/towards the best window light in the house.

    2) Turn your mode dial to "AV"
This is called "aperture mode." Something you need to know is that your aperture controls your depth of field. The smaller the number of your aperture, the shallower the depth of field you have...which makes for beautiful portraits. So, turn your dial to "AV" then look through your view finder and change your aperture to the smallest your lens will allow. You'll know how low you can go by looking on the outside of your lens. Take the lens cap off and look at the text written around the inside. It should say something like 1:4.5 or something like that. The 4.5 number is the lowest aperture you can go to. As a sidenote, the smaller the number, the more expensive the lens. Likely your rebel came with like a 3.5 or something. Also, you should know the lower the number, the more able you are to shoot in low light without a flash.

    3) Once you have your aperture set to the lowest number, make sure that your speed isn't lower than 1/60th of a second. As you change your aperture, your speed will automatically change. If the (shutter speed) number that's changing is lower than 60, raise the aperture till it's 60 or higher.

    4) Shoot a million photos. ;)

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

  3. Cute photos. I like the contrast with the B&W. It's a nice accent.

    BTW, I think it's "elvish".
